    He was in the trials first in 1913 as a rower. In early January 1914 Eric was initially selected at number 4 in the Cambridge boat as they began practice for the Varsity Boat Race. By the end of the month he had been replaced. Four of the final Cambridge crew that year died in WW1 (and one from the Oxford boat). The race was won by Cambridge.
    Played the violin as a child.

    Surgeon Lieutenant in Royal Navy.
    1915 - Surgeon Probationer in Royal Naval Volunteer Reserves serving on HMS Nereide (a Torpedo-Boat Destroyer).
    1916/7 - RN Temporary Surgeon on HMS Glory (Battleship).
    1918/9 - Surgeon Lieutenant, laterly at RN Depot, Crystal Palace.

    Awarded the Bronze Sea Gallantry Medal for saving life at sea by rescuing a shipwrecked British crew. Officially it is the 'Board of Trade Medal for Saving Life at Sea'. 
    Occupation  Physician. In General Practice after the war at Letchworth/Baldock, Hertfordshire until 1925 then Eastbourne, Sussex until 1927. 
    War  1939 to 1948 
    Captain in RAMC, promoted Temporary Major (13 Dec 1945) then Major. Served in Italy at No.1 Casualty Clearing Station. Recommended for MBE. Relinquished his commission in 1948 and granted honorary rank of Major.
