    He joined the King's sons who rebelled against King Henry II. On 31 Jul 1174 he was captured with the King of Scots and the Earls of Chester and Lincoln, and was imprisoned at Caen, Normandy. He was deprived of his castles which were put out of commission and fined 200 marks. He later regained the confidence of the King and showed his fidelity to the next sovereign, King Richard I, by accompanying him to the Holy Land where he died.
