    Bank Clerk until 1937. In 1943 he was given as a Bank Officer, though by then he was missing, presumed dead. It is assumed he had been promoted at some point after 1937.

    He was promoted from senior Ledger-Keeper to Teller in this branch of the Bank of NSW. He had only been moved from Warracknabeal at the end of 1936.

    Although he had been reported as missing in action it seems that the family had not given up hope. So, there are several occasions when he was mentioned as though still alive as for instance in the 1943 Electoral Roll and the notice of his father's death the same year.

    The date given for his death appears to be the date he actually went missing. If he was a POW and died in captivity he could have died at any time after that. The official date for his death would then have been the end of the war. No body was ever recovered but the Ambon Memorial which commemorates over 440 men and officers of the Australian Forces resides on the site of a former POW camp on the island.

    Staff Sergeant in the Australian Infantry (AIF), missing in action in 1942. Served in Gull Force (779 of 1131, 69% servicemen from Gull Force died on Ambon Island). Believed to have been a prisoner of war and presumed dead in captivity, may have been one of 229 massacred at Laha after surrendering. Not officially classed as dead until after the war in December 1945. The two families, his own and his wife's, marked his death on 15 Dec 1945 in the Melbourne papers.
