    Jan 1918 was trained as a Pilot, (probably) in the Royal Flying Corps and was appointed Lt or 'Flying Officer' in the RAF on 25 Apr 1918 (see Note). Sent to France (BEF) on 7 Jul 1918 as Night Fly Pilot (spoke French quite well). Killed in action 7 Aug 1918. 
    • Although the RAF was formed on 1 Apr 1918 Army ranks were still used until 1 Aug 1919.
