Ordination of William Fydian, with first tonsure, conducted by The Right Rev John Bird, Bishop of Chester. William was from the diocese of Chester so may not be our William Fyddian, but there are records of some Fyddians in Cheshire in the late 16th and early 17th century who could be related.
Name  Surname usually recorded as Fyddian or Fydian.
Occupation  Priest. Coleshill was a Market Town in North Warwickshire. The Parish was largely pasture and some arable land. At this time Coleshill, Sheldon and Solihull were all part of the same Manor. The most likely alternative occupation for William was Farmer. However, by this time a large seam of iron ore and coal had been found suitable for open cast mining. Iron production in the region and its resultant products increased over the next 200 years. At some point the Fiddian family almost certainly became involved in iron production and/or forging.
